In an unusual move, Richard Aucoin, the acting director of Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency aggressively defended the government’s pesticide approval process in a letter to the Guelph Mercury on April 27, 2008, concluding that “we are…confident that the pesticides approved for use in Canada, including lawn and garden products, can be used safely when label directions are followed.” The letter is a response to the recent spate of municipal and provincial pesticide bans.
